We had a really good Thanksgiving. My Husband's family were out of town so we were able to spend the day with my family. I really miss them so it was nice to be able to spend so much time with them. I had my first Black Friday experience. It was pretty busy but not as crazy as I expected. I really did not buy anything substantial. I just went to spend time with my sister-in-law. I was glad I could do this.
Thanksgiving was also a bitter sweet. We had a house fire four years ago on November 26, 2005. I was living with my parents at the time and we lost everything. The memories from that day are so vivid. The only thing we had to our names was the clothes off of our backs. But people in our community were amazing really stepped up and helped us in a time of need. It was amazing every time we went to church there was more things for us to help us get by. We lost a couple of pets too :[
That was a really had time in my family's life but as strange as it seems I believe that it was for the better. I was thinking about moving a couple of states away to go to college but I am glad I did not because not long after the fire the college starting having trouble. I also would not be with my wonderful husband. I do have to say last night we were going through so my husbands things from his childhood and it makes me sad that I no longer have things from my childhood.. I am so thankful now that I am able to make my own memories with my husband.
No on a happy note, I am pretty excited because today we are going to put up our Christmas tree and finish up all of our shopping. It should be a good day!

Furniture!
I know this does not have anything to do with my running journey but I am super excited about it:]
For the past year we have been trying to save up for new furniture. We have been using some old1970's furniture from Tony's Aunt. Which was really nice of her but we wanted to get some comfortable that looked decent. So finally we went around and hit the stores today. We went to three different furniture stores trying to find the perfect set for us. We came up with a couch, love sear and chair. Tony really wanted the chair. So we got one.
Here is the link of what we got...
http://www.slumberland.com/furniture/Products/Maxwell-Collection---Cognac-Reclining-Sofa__8217492.aspx?CategoryID=37
The chair will be here next week but everything they are shipping from China so we will have to wait for that. But it is worth it because it is So comfortable!!
I bet you cant tell that I am excited;]

Halloween 5k
So I finished the 5k.
I was not going to because I have not trained at all but Tony convinced me. I paid for it so I should go for it. So I did and I am really glad that I did.
My time was not the greatest 41.57 but I really had a lot fun. It felt great to get back out there and run again. I do not know what it is but something about running just makes me feel good. There was about 250 runners. We all ran around Como Lake two times. I actually ended up getting lapped but I am able to accept it. I cannot wait until the day when I can a 5k with a sub 30 time. My goal is to do that this next summer. I know it can happen:] I am trying to do some positive thinking.
I have been so busy with school and work that I have not had the time to run. I cannot wait until December when I graduate and will be able to run again.

Back at it...
It has been so long but I have just had the opportunity to run. I have one class this semester and my professor decided to kill us all or so it feels;] I also have been working 30 hours a week, interning for 16 hours and week not to mention I am married to a wonderful man whom I love to spend time with. Needless to say I finally got out for the first time in a long time tonight.
Last week I was sick. The plan was to go out then. But today I made it. It felt so good. I have a 5k on Halloween. But since I have not been able to get out in a while I am gonna try to power walk it. After going out tonight I learned that I have lost some of my ability. But by golly I am going to do it and finish it. It is around como park. I think it will be a nice 5k even though I am not well trained I am super excited.

A break
I know it has been a while but after last weeks 5k I decided to take a week off. I felt like I needed to rest for a bit. I know a 5k is not really that long but it was my excuse and I am sticking to it. I am going to start up again tomorrow. I better I registered for another 5k on Halloween down at Como Park. I am going to try once again to run it in under 30 minutes. I am going to try to get my sister and sister-in-law to do it with me. It should be a good time...

So much going on...
I have been pretty busy last week so I did not get the chance to blog.
Last weekend I did not go running at all. I had a super busy Labor Day weekend and I wanted to enjoy it. I went to the lake for a couple of days. It was a lot of fun. I had my first real fishing experience:] We rode our bikes around the lake. It was a nice little jaunt. Then on Monday we had a birthday part for Evan where everyone played a game of kickball. It was a lot of fun! But I was super sore on Tuesday. I tried to run the rest of the week but I did not get very far my legs were just not up for it.
Yesterday I had my second 5k. It was a real nice run. Kristine and Will came and they did the 10k. Hopefully next summer I will be able to do a 10k at some point. We drove to White Bear and saw a sign that said parking for race. We thought that was our race. Wrong. We did not discover this until we went to pick up our packet. Craziness. We got back into the car and looked for our race which we eventually found 20 minutes before the start. We had to pick up our packet and I really needed to use the potty and of course there was a long line. Thankfully the 5k started about 15 minutes late so I had plenty of time.
I started the race with my shins taped up because I was experiencing some pain in my shins. I taped it a little to high because it caused my calves to hurt and they were unable to flex. So about 1/2 mile into it I tear it off.
The race was a lot of fun and a whole lot easier then the first one that I did. Although I did not think I was as fast as I was in the first one because there was not as many people behind me. The finish line came up on me fast and then I was done. When I started this race my goal was to beat my time and I did:] My unofficial time was 40:30. I am waiting to see my official time and I will keep you posted.

No Scale September
I heard of some people I know are doing this and I decided to joing in. I usually weigh myself often and I get discouraged when I do not see what I like. Although my clothes fit better, I feel better and I get told I look nice. I have decided not to but too much emphasis on the scale because that is not really what matters. So we will see if I can make it.
On a side note I went running last night. I was going to go on Thursday but work has been stressful and I could not get myself to do anything. The run last night went pretty good. I could not quite finish it but I came closer to finishing it then I ever had before. So there was a plus to it. I went right after work before I had the time to eat supper. I think this will be my new plan. When I run at night I will go when I get home before I eat supper that way my stomach will not be full.
I am going to go running tomorrow night. It will most likely be on the treadmill since we are going to see my in-laws up north.

On the Road Again.
Well, I was gonna go on a run today but it is technically a rest day and Tony wanted to go for a bike ride. So that is what we did. So I got a work out in and I actually got the rest in. We went for about 45 minutes. We went on the trail and also through the the subdivision for a bit. The weather was beautiful and it was a great night I did come to the realization that I want a better seat for my bike. I went to sit on the bike and my butt already hurt from the bike ride two days ago.I really need to invest in one. I think I would be able to go further on a ride and it would be enjoyable.
Anywho, My work outs for the week will consist of running on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. I am actually going to try to go for walks or bike rides on my rest days. Although I already know that probably will not happen tomorrow because it is Tony's Birthday.

Failure
The run yesterday was nice because it was cooler outside and I did not sweat nearly as nice. It is definitely nicer to run when it is cooler. So I tried to complete Day2 of Week 5 once again and I was unable to finish it once again. UGH! Halfway through my calves starting hurting really bad and really hindered my running. I actually had to stop running to do some more stretching. I did stretch before the run and I thought that I stretched quite a bit. I think I really need to find some more stretches for calves.
I was also using a podcast to run to but I think I am going to change that. The podcasts are nice because they encourage you. But the music is horrible and something that is hard for me to listen to. About halfway through I turned off the podcast and just ran to my own music and then the second half of the run went a lot better.
My next 5k is in three weeks. I do not think I will be able to finish the program by then. I can accept that. My new goal is to finish under 40 minutes and get a new personal record. So I will just keep training and just do the best that I again

So is rest...
I went running last night as you all know. I also tried to go this morning. It did not work out so well. The program calls for rest everyday after a run and now I understand why. I was able to run some but not very much of it. My legs are still sore tonight. Even though it was hard I am glad that I went out and did it. It proves to myself that I am motivated and I can do anything if I really want to. So I will take a full day off tomorrow and attempt to finish Day2 of Week5 on Saturday.
It is supposed to be cooling down this weekend. Everyone else is dreading it but I am actually looking forward to it. It will make my running that much easier for me:]
On a side note, I did something stupid today. I am starting my last semester of classes:] I am super excited about this! My classes are an hour and fifteen minutes away. So I got in the car and drove to the school. Well, when I got there I discovered that classes do not start until next week. Ugh! It was a disappointment and nice and the same time. But it is always to early and not late.

Stretching is Important
You would think I would know this but I did not do this tonight and halfway through the run I felt it. I actually had to stop and stretch. After that it went much better. I was trying to rush through the run so I could come back and watch America's Got Talent. I from now on will try to stretch before and after the run. Well, my lesson is learned for next time.
I repeated Day2 of Week5. I did not quite finish it but I got further than I did on Sunday night. I did not walk nearly as much as I did last time. That is all I can really ask for. So I will try again tomorrow.

Ick
I was supposed to go run tonight. Make a note of the words supposed to. I did not get much sleep at all last night and I was have a stomach ache. ICK! If I can somehow pull it together in the next hour I will still go but I am doubting that will happen but hey you never know.
I wish I could pull myself together. It would be a lot easier to get trained for this 5k if I felt good all the time. Then again it would not feel as satisfying if it was easy. My goal for the rest of the week is to run Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday. Tony and I are gonna go for a bike ride on Saturday. If that does not happen I will run on Saturday. These are more than my goals it is officially part of my schedule. So I am sure I will be back tomorrow to post on how the run went.

Week 5 Day 2
Well, I attempted to run this tonight. It consisted of running for eight minutes two times. I ran the first eight minutes with no problem. The second eight minutes were another story. I ran most of it but I was not able to. I will have to repeat this run again.
On a good note I ran farther than I ever ran before. I ran 2.5 miles in 30 minutes. So I am getting closer to being able to actually run a 5k. I just registered my next 5k tonight. So the date is set for September 12th. I am pretty excited and nervous at the same time.

Accomplishment!
I finally finished Week4Day3 of C25k. It was tough tonight. I really had to push myself but I am really proud that I was able to do it. I was pretty exhausted when I got back.
On to week 5. I am pretty nervous about it because the last day of it I am supposed to run for 20 minutes straight...eek. But if I cannot get it the first time I will just keep trying.

Saturday Exercise
We decided to stay around the house today and I was pretty excited. At around 2:00 Tony and I decided we would go on a bike(the humidity decided to go down:). It was a real nice ride and we were gone for about an hour and fifteen minutes. We got back and we were lazy for a bit and at 6:00 I decided to go for my C25k run. It was not a good idea after the bike ride.
The first part of the run went really good and I ran the first half completely. I could not finish Week4Day3. I will try again on Monday and I will not go on a bike ride before.
On a happy note when I weighed myself this morning I lost 2lbs:] So this running-working-out thing is actually starting to show some results!

The Humidity
I have not done as much running as I would have liked so far this week. It just has been way too hot. It is extremely hard to run if the temperature is over 75 degrees. Lately the temperature is around 85 degrees at the time I normally run. We all know a run will not happen then.
So I woke up early and went at 5:30am. Even at this time of the day it was very warm but I made it through. They are saying after this week it will cool down a little which will be better for my runs.

Running Shoes!
I have been doing a lot of running but the scale has not moved much:{ But I have been feeling so much better about myself. I have more energy and I look smaller to myself in the mirror. I think those are better in themselves but I will be completely happy when I see the scale move.
I purchased new running shoes this morning! They are amazing! They made my run so much easier tonight. I did week4 Day 4 of C25k. I was able to actually run more of it than I could last week. I do not know if this is because of the shoes or if I believed in myself more because of how well I did in the 5k on Saturday.

It has been a while...
I did not realize it had been so long.
But I did have my 5k yesterday. I was a little worried because I was only on week 4 of C25k. I ran it and I finished not with the greatest time but it was my first one and the main thing is that I finished. I had a time of 42.30.
I learned a couple of things. 1. I need running shoes. During the run I got horrible shin pain and I think this would not have happened if I had running shoes. So I am going to get some tomorrow. 2. Listen to people's advice. Everyone told me not to start out fast but one I started it did not feel fast and I was keeping up with everyone. I ran the entire first mile and it took everyone out of me so I had to walk the rest of the way.
I will have another 5k on the 12th of September. I am excited about this one. My sister-in-law and brother are going to be doing the 10k at the same place. My sister and mom are also thinking about doing the 5k. It would be nice.
I had so much fun at the 5k and really excited to do the next one. I am hoping by that time to finish the C25k and do the 5k under 40 minutes.

Thursday Night...
I did not go running Tuesday night either because of the rain:[
I did although manage to go last night. I ran one mile in twelve minutes which is good. I think I just need to build my endurance so I can do three of those because after one mile I am pretty much done. So next week I will try to do two miles a night. I think if I really push myself I could do it. We are going up north this weekend so I will not get much chance to run outside. My in-laws have a treadmill, so I probably will hit that for a mile or two. I know it is not the same but it is better that nothing. Right?

Yesterday...Fail:{
So I did not get the chance to go running last night. We had some good Lasagna and I ate too much of it. When 8:00 rolled around(the time I normally run at) I was too full and I do not think I would have been able to run effectively.
I am going to try again tonight. Hopefully the rain will hold off...

My goals
As I start this weight loss blog I want to put my goals out there so I can stay on track.
First off when I weighed myself this morning I weight 197. My goal is to get down to 170. When I got married last September I weighed 178. So I know this is definitely doable.
I am scheduled to run/walk a 5k on August 8th. My goal is to finish it 36 minutes. I also will be doing another 5k in September by then hopefully I can finish in 30 minutes. I am running with my brother and sister-in-law granted they will be doing the 10k but it should still be a good time and who knows maybe I will doing a 10k next year. I am excited to be actually doing this and I cannot wait to see my results.
I am going to try to run 5 days a week. My exercise today was a twelve minute mile.
That is it for now hopefully this blog will help me stay on track.
